April Cleve’s Source for Sports

Athlete of the Month winners announced


HALIFAX, NS (May 24, 2017) – The Cleve’s Source for Sports Female Individual Athlete of the Month is Bianca Paquin. The 19-year-old boxer from Spryfield recently competed at the Canadian National Boxing Championships in Quebec City where she won a silver medal. Nicholas Bourbonniere, 14, has been named the Cleve’s Source for Sports Male Individual Athlete of the Month. The Halifax swimmer placed 7th in the 200m IM, 12th in the 200m Butterfly and 16th in the 400m Freestyle at the 2017 Canadian Eastern Championships. In addition to these impressive results, Bourbonniere broke eight provincial records in the 13-14 age division.

The Cleve’s Source for Sports Female Team Athlete of the Month honour has been awarded to Jennie Bovard. The 30-year-old goalball player was a member of Team Nova Scotia at the 2017 Canadian Senior National Goalball Championships. The team won their first-ever national championship medal after defeating Alberta 9-1 in the bronze medal game. Bovard finished the tournament with six goals.

Jacob Hudson of Antigonish has been named the Cleve’s Source for Sports Male Team Athlete of the Month.  A member of the history-making Cape Breton West Islanders, the 16-year-old hockey player captained the team to a national championship at the TELUS Cup. Hudson picked up four points through tournament play and was named the Most Valuable Player.

Team Jones has been named the Cleve’s Source for Sports Team of the Month. Comprising of Colleen Jones (skip), Kim Kelly (third), Mary Sue Radford (second), and Nancy Delahunt (vice skip/lead) the team clinched gold at the World Senior Women’s Curling Championships in Lethbridge, AB. Team Jones maintained their undefeated tournament record after topping Switzerland by a score of 10-5 in the final.

The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
