Cleve’s Source for Sports Athletes of the Month for November announced

(Halifax, December 12, 2018)- Claire Ellison is the Female Individual Athlete of the Month for November. The 17-year-old from Halifax competed alongside 253 athletes at the 2018 national rowing championships in Burnaby. Ellison won bronze in the junior woman’s single event and placed 15th in the open women’s singles event.

Andrew Todd is the Male Individual Athlete of the Month for November. The 29-year-old rower from Dartmouth recently competed in at the national rowing championships that took place from November 8-11 in Burnaby, where he topped the podium in the PR3 men’s singles event. The para athlete also raced in the able- bodied men’s singles category where he placed 15th out of 65 competitors.

Soccer player, Teni Akindoju is the Female Team Athlete of the Month for November. The 17-year-old competed for Team Canada at the U-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Uruguay from November 13- December 1. The team fought to a 4th place finish against New Zealand in overtime. This was Canada’s best ever performance at this event.

The members of Team Thompson are the Team Athletes of the Month for November. The Halifax curling team recently won sliver at the 2019 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in Winnipeg. Both of the female players on the team were also awarded sportsmanship awards. In order to qualify for this event, Team Thompson competed at the Nova Scotia championships where they were named provincial champions.

The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
