Bryan Fumerton and Kerith Gordon named Sport Chek Athletes of the Month for November
HALIFAX, NS (Wednesday, December 21, 2011)
– Twenty-two year old Halifax swimmer Bryan Fumerton has earned the title of Sport Chek Male Individual Athlete of the month for attaining a handful of impressive finishes at the Canada Cup, held this year in Toronto, ON. Among the 75 competitors, Bryan finished 6th in the 200m Backstroke and 400m Individual Medley divisions, 7th in the 400m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley divisions, 13th in the 200m Freestyle, and 15th in the 100m Backstroke division. Bryan’s accomplishments also include provincial records in the 400m Freestyle Short Course, 400m Freestyle Long Course, and 400m Individual Medley Short Course divisions.

Kerith Gordon, also 22 years old and from Halifax, received the honour of being named Sport Chek Female Individual Athlete of the Month for finishing 5th overall in the Women’s Lightweight Single category of the National Rowing Championships, held in Welland, ON. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as all four rowers who finished ahead of Kerith were all current or former national team members. 

The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
