Ellie Black, David Sharpe, and Max Flinn & Andrew Burns named Sport Chek Athletes and Team of the Month for February
HALIFAX, NS (Tuesday, March 20, 2012) – The Sport Chek Female Individual Athlete of the Month for February is none other than Halifax’s Ellie Black. The 16-year-old artistic gymnast had some impressive finishes at the 2012 Elite Canada national competition, held in Mississauga, ON in mid-February. Returning to competition after suffering a dislocated elbow, fractured thumb, and dislocated and fractured toe, Ellie succeeded in placing first in the Vault category, third in Beam, and ninth all-around.
February’s title for Sport Chek Male Individual Athlete of the Month has been awarded to Halifax swimmer David Sharpe. He placed first in the 200m Butterfly, fourth in the 100m Butterfly, and sixth in the 50m Butterfly categories at the Eastern Canadian Swimming Championships, a national event held in February of this year. These results rank David third in the men’s 200m Butterfly division within Canada, and 37th in the world.
In team news, Max Flinn & Andrew Burns claimed the honour of Sport Chek Team of the Month for February. The sailing duo finished fifth overall, and first among all Canadians; achieving the best Canadian result in the past 15 years. The team’s results have qualified them to represent Canada at the 2012 World Youth Sailing Championships in the International 420 class.
