About us
Sport Nova Scotia is made up of close to 40 employees who work in six departments. Our main office is in Halifax, but we also have sport consultants in each region of the province. We’re a non-government, non-profit organization focused on supporting the sport system for all participants. We have over 60 provincial sport organization members who encompass over 160,000 Nova Scotians from Sydney to Yarmouth. Learn more about our organization below. The Sport development team’s expertise includes Parasport NS, reSPORT, the Sport Development Tool, funding allocations, and participation. The department has sport consultants in regions across the province who work with community sport organizations, stakeholders, and municipalities to identify, collaborate and support sustainable quality sport opportunities. The PR team is responsible for all internal and external communications. The department takes care of Sport Nova Scotia’s online presence including social media and website updates. They create press releases, support company events, and provide provincial sport organizations with media assistance and communications best practices.
Sport Nova Scotia hosts five events each year including IG Wealth Management Ceilidh & Casino, Support4Sport Awards, Milk Sport Fair (spring), Milk Sport Fair (fall), and Reindeer Games. The marketing and events department takes care of event logistics, sponsorships, Sport Fund, the Sport Nova Scotia Travel Program, Cleve’s Source for Sports Athlete of the Month, Sport Split 50/50, graphics, branding, and all fundraising initiatives.
The organizational effectiveness team works with provincial sport organizations to strengthen practices and system capacity for a variety of areas including human resource management, policy and dispute resolution, work structures, financial management, and board operations. The administrative coordinators provide direct staff assistance to participating organizations.
KidSport is a national program with chapters across the country. The Nova Scotia chapter is administered by Sport Nova Scotia’s KidSport Coordinator. The program helps kids overcome the financial barriers preventing or limiting their participation in organized sport. This department falls under the marketing and events umbrella.
The finance and administration department support our staff, members, and registered users with payroll, desktop publishing and administrative services. The small team takes care of everything from IT support, financial reporting, tax receipts, staff orientations, and reception.
