April 26, 2023 (Halifax, NS)- Cleve’s Source for Sports April Athlete of the Month Recipients Announced
Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the April 2023 Cleve’s Source for Sports Athlete of the Month recipients; Raya Mae Porter (Jr. Female), and Hunter Moore (Jr. Male), Ritu Shah (Sr. Female), and Thomas Ashton (Sr. Male), and Team MacIsaac (Team of the Month).

Raya Mae Porter: 12-year-old taekwondo athlete from Wellington, Nova Scotia.
Recent Achievements: Raya recently won silver at the US Open, a prestigious international competition where Olympic and international-level athletes compete. She won bronze at the 2022 Pan Am Championship and gold at the 2023 junior national championship.

Hunter Moore: 15-year-old gymnastics athlete from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Recent Achievements: Hunter competed at Elite Canada, a national-level competition, where he won gold in both individual trampoline and synchronized trampoline, and bronze in double mini-trampoline. Hunter had a personal best high score in his final’s routine and was the only male in the category to medal in all three events.

Ritu Shah: 18-year-old badminton athlete from Bedford, Nova Scotia.
Recent Achievements: Ritu won silver in the women’s singles event in the individual portion of the Canada Winter Games. Her medal (along with her teammate) were the first medals ever won by Nova Scotia in badminton at the Winter Games. Ritu and Thomas Ashton teamed up for mixed doubles, placing in the top eight. Ritu was crucial to Team Nova Scotia placing fifth in the team portion of the event, the highest Nova Scotia has finished in recent history.

Thomas Ashton: 19-year-old badminton athlete from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Recent Achievements: Thomas won silver in men’s singles at the Canada Winter Games. Thomas’s medal was among the first medals ever won by Nova Scotia in badminton at the Winter Games. He teamed up with teammate Ritu Shah, to finish top eight in mixed doubles. Thomas was instrumental in Team Nova Scotia placing fifth in the team event, the best finish for Nova Scotia in recent history.

Under 17 Curling, Team MacIsaac
Recent Achievements: Team MacIsaac won gold in men’s curling at the Canada Winter Games earlier this year. In addition to winning gold at the Winter Games, the team also represented Nova Scotia at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships and won bronze at the Under 18 Canadian Championships.

• The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards.
• A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
