September, 2024, (Halifax, NS) – Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the 2024 Cleve’s Source for Sports September Impact Award Recipients: Molly Sanction (Female Athlete), Ryker Durning (Male Athlete), and Dave Galloway (Coach).
Female Athlete: Molly Sancton, Basketball Nova Scotia
Achievements: Last month, Molly demonstrated her skill as she competed on the Nova Scotia U15 Girls Provincial Basketball Team at the U15 National Championships. At the tournament, Molly was a critical offensive threat for her team, averaging 13.6 points per game and a 40.4 field goal percentage. Her dominance on the court, with an average of 8.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals, truly made her an indispensable player to her team.
Male Athlete: Ryker Durning, Athletics Nova Scotia
Achievements: Last month, Ryker represented Team Nova Scotia at the highest level of Legion Youth National Track and Field Championships in Calgary. In his three events, he earned two personal bests, two podium finishes, a club record, and an Athletics Nova Scotia High-Performance Standard with results of silver in Shot Put, bonze in Discus Throw, and ninth in Triple Jump. Ryker was named the outstanding male athlete for Team NS at the Legions, adding this to his many achievements as a high-performance multisport athlete who also competes in Freestyle Skiing, Football, and Athletics.
Coach: Dave Galloway, Truro Lions Track & Field Club
Achievements: Last month, four horizontal jumpers coached by Dave were selected to represent Team Nova Scotia at the Legion Youth National Track and Field Championships in Calgary, the largest U16 and U18 competition in Canada for athletics. Athletes Myka Wilson and Carter Myatt won bronze with personal best jumps and new club records. Additionally, Carter’s jump reached the Athletics Nova Scotia High-Performance Standard. Athletes Ryker Durning finished ninth, and Jasmine Aarts finished 16th. Dave is a valued volunteer member of the Truro Lions Track & Field Club, coaching seven months of the year with the club.
