Cleve’s Source for Sport Impact Awards February

February 19, 2025 (Halifax, NS)– Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the Cleve’s Source for Sports February Impact Award Recipients: Paula Michaelis (Volunteer), Taylor Demone (Male Athlete), Amy McCarthy (Female Athlete), and Cassandra Smith (Coach).  

Female Athlete: Amy McCarthy, Snowboard Nova Scotia 

Achievements: Last month, Amy represented Nova Scotia, Canada, and Acadia University at the Torino 2025 World Universiade in freestyle snowboarding. She won silver in Slopestyle and bronze in Big Air.  

Male Athlete: Taylor Demone, Athletics Nova Scotia  

Achievements: Taylor, who is 16 years old, broke the U18 and U20 provincial record in indoor long jump last month. He jumped 6.77m, currently placing him first in Canada for the event in those categories.  

Coach: Cassandra Smith, Snowboard Nova Scotia 

Achievements: Last month, Cassandra coached Team Canada at the FISU Winter Games in Italy. She went above and beyond for the team, preparing for the games since September and leading early-season training camps. Two Nova Scotian athletes joined Cassandra as part of the team and one of the athletes, Amy McCarthy, took home a silver and bronze medal.  

Volunteer: Paula Michaelis, Cross Country Ski Nova Scotia 

Achievements: Paula is a dedicated year-round volunteer at North Highlands Nordic, serving in her third year as club president. She dedicates many hours throughout the year to coordinating fundraising, overseeing the operations of the Nordic centre, and being a key organizer in the club’s special projects. Through her leadership, the club secured funds to purchase a new groomer for the club and developed a children’s ski playground.  

Sport Nova Scotia is a voice for amateur sport that promotes the benefits of health, personal development and achievement of all participants. Sport Nova Scotia is a non-profit, non-government organization representing approximately 60 provincial sport organizations and more than 160,000 member Nova Scotians.
