September 29, 2026 (Halifax, NS) – Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce that September’s Cleve’s Source for Sports Impact Award recipients are Laura Eisenhauer and Freida Smith (female athlete), Kaden Shen (male athlete) and Dawson Legere (coach).

Female Athlete: Laura Eisenhauer and Freida Smith, Sailing

Achievements: Laura Eisenhauer and Frieda Smith of Halifax’s Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron captured the Female Championship at the 2026 29er European Championship held in the Czech Republic this past August. The fleet sailed with both men and women, and they finished sixth overall and first among the women in the 177-boat fleet.

Male Athlete: Kaden Shen, Karate

Achievements: This summer Kaden Shen won a silver medal for Canada at the 2026 Junior Pan American Karate Championships in San José, Costa Rica. The 17-year-old of Murphy’s Karate Academy competed in the Junior Male Kumite -76 kg division where he faced some of the best young karate athletes from across North and South America. He has also earned the chance to represent Canada at the 2026 Cadet, Junior & U21 World Championships, taking place in October.

Coach: Dawson Legere, Rugby

Achievements: Dawson Legere had an outstanding season as head coach of the Rugby Nova Scotia U17 men’s team, culminating in a gold medal at the Atlantic Championships this past August. In his first year leading the U17 program, Dawson guided the team through five highly competitive games, finishing the tournament undefeated with four wins and one tie before defeating Newfoundland and Labrador in the final to claim the Atlantic Championship. He works exceptionally well with his coaching staff and is always quick to recognize their contributions, giving significant credit to the people around him for the team’s success and the experience provided to the athletes.
