Cleve’s Source for Sports Impact Awards August

August 23rd, 2024, (Halifax, NS) – Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the 2024 Cleve’s Source for Sports August Impact Award Recipients: Emmi German (Female Athlete), Bentley Jenkinson (Male Athlete), Mitchell German (Coach), and Irene Guenzel (Volunteer).  

Female Athlete: Emmi German, Karate Nova Scotia 

Achievements: Emmi won gold in the Female Junior Kumite -53Kg division last month at the 2024 Karate Canada Nationals in Laval, Quebec. Competing against the best athletes from each province through 12 competitions, Emmi earned her spot to represent Team Canada at the Pan American Karate U21, Youth, Cadets, and Sub14 this month in São Paulo, Brazil.  

Male Athlete: Bentley Jenkinson, Gymnastics Nova Scotia 

Achievements: Bentley competed as part of Team Canada at the Coimbra Gym Fest in Coimbra, Portugal, this past month. In his first international competition, he was ranked as the top Canadian athlete in both of his categories, winning silver in Men’s Individual Trampoline and bronze in Men’s Double Mini Trampoline in the 13-14 age group.  

Coach: Mitchell German, Karate Nova Scotia 

Achievements: Last month, Mitchell led three athletes to the top of the podium at the Karate Canada Nationals in Laval, Quebec. Emmi German won gold in the Female Junior -53Kg Kumite division, Evan Peddle in the Male Senior -67 Kg Kumite division, and Sean O’Neil in the Male Senior -84 Kg Kumite division. Mitchell’s guidance and support were instrumental in their success. He will continue to work with athletes as he heads to the Pan American Karate Championship U21 Youth Cadets and Sub14 in São Paulo, Brazil, as a National Coach. 

Volunteer: Irene Guenzel, Equestrian Nova Scotia 

Achievements: Irene has been an asset to the new I Can Event (ICE) Pilot Program this year. She has been an instrumental part of the management team for a new competition at the Red Ridge ICE Competition venue. Leading up to the day of the event, she took on the critical role of scheduling and assisting with entries, allowing the new organizers to focus on location-specific preparations, which led to a successful competition.  

Sport Nova Scotia is a voice for amateur sport that promotes the benefits of health, personal development and achievement of all participants. Sport Nova Scotia is a non-profit, non-government organization representing approximately 60 provincial sport organizations and more than 160,000 member Nova Scotians.
