November 16, 2022- Halifax, NS – Cleve’s Source for Sports Athlete of the Month Recipients Announced
Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the November 2022 Cleve’s Source for Sports Athlete of the Month recipients; Julie Nolan-McCarthy (Jr. female), and Catarina (Cate) Giannandrea (Sr. female).
Julie Nolan-McCarthy: 15-year-old swimmer from Halifax.
Recent achievements: Julie accepted an invite to compete internationally in October at the 2022 FINA Swimming World Cup in Toronto. She competed in four individual events where she set three new Nova Scotia Short Course Provincial Records. Julie placed 16th in the women’s 200m Breaststroke, 17th in 50m Breaststroke, and 19th in the 100m Individual Medley.
Catarina (Cate) Giannandrea: 20-year-old equestrian athlete from Sydney Mines.
Recent achievements: In October, Cate captured two gold medals at the NSEF Scotia Series Provincial Championships in the Senior English Flat and the Senior Showmanship divisions. Qualifications for this competition require athletes to rank first or second in their district. Despite not initially ranking first in her district, Cate won four out of five classes at the Championships.
Quick Facts: Athlete of the Month
- The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards.
- A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
