January 28, 2025 (Halifax, NS)– Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the Cleve’s Source for Sports December Impact Award Recipients: Eileen Woodford (Volunteer), Milo Sircom-Brown (Male Athlete), and Vita Goeicanec (Female Athlete).

Female Athlete: Vita Goricanec, Swim Nova Scotia

Achievements: Last month, Vita achieved a provincial record in the women’s 12 & under 50m breaststroke during the 2024 Candy Cane Invitational Swim Meet in Truro. Her time of 35.20 bests the previous record set in 2007 and adds to her personal best times in all six events at the meet. Her achievements, paired with her positive attitude, added to the team’s overall supportive environment throughout the meet.

Male Athlete: Milo Sircom-Brown, Cross Country Skiing

Achievements: Milo’s dedication was evident as he competed alongside over 650 racers across Canada and the United States at the Eastern Canada Cup at the Nakkertok Nordic Ski Centre last month. He competed in a tight field with top nationally-ranked skiers at the first major ski race of the season, with only seconds separating competitors. Milo’s consistent performance across distances in classic and skate techniques, and the sprint race, led to him finishing 10th in the U20M Classic, 12th in the U20 M 1.3km Sprint Classic, and 15th in U12 M 7.5km Freestyle, all while completing exams at the University of Ottawa. Milo adds these accomplishments to his many others, including being a uOttawa Nordiq and NS Ski Team member.

Volunteer: Eileen Woodford, Cross Country Skiing

Achievements: Eileen’s leadership has been instrumental in the success of the Baddeck Nordic Club. As the current president and founder, she has been the driving force behind the club’s formation for the past five years. Her trail work sessions have maintained the club’s 10km trail system, and her early bird membership drive resulted in over 100 members joining this season. She works closely with community partners such as the Baddeck Regional Library for equipment loans and Cross Country Nova Scotia’s Ski Ambassador Program, encouraging people of all abilities and ages to try skiing.
