Cleve’s Source for Sports Athlete of the Month December 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 

December 14, 2022- Halifax, NS – Cleve’s Source for Sports Athlete of the Month Recipients Announced 

Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the December 2022 Cleve’s Source for Sports Athlete of the Month recipients; Ellie Black & Denelle Pedrick (Team of the Month), Bridget Mutipula (Jr. Female), Ellie Black (Sr. Female), and Matthew Gentleman (Sr. Male).  

Team of the Month: Ellie Black & Denelle Pedrick, Sr. National Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Team. 

Recent achievements:  In early November, at the World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, UK, Ellie Black & Denelle Pedrick helped Team Canada win a historic bronze medal in the team event, securing a sport in the 2024 Olympic Games.  

Bridget Mutipula: 15-year-old soccer player from Halifax. 

Recent achievements: Bridget was selected to the ‘Rest of Canada’ team to compete in November against the three National Development Centres of BC, ON and QC. In the tournament, Bridget stood out as she shut out national team players and earned recognition from national team coaches.  

Ellie Black: 27-year-old gymnast from Halifax 

Recent achievements: At the World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, UK, Ellie captured bronze on balance beam and placed fourth on vault in the event final. Ellie also finished fifth in the all-around competition, where she debuted her newly named skill “The Black” on uneven bars, receiving the highest value of a skill performed to date.  

Matthew Gentleman: 17-year-old goalball athlete.  

Recent achievements: In November, Matthew helped Nova Scotia capture bronze at the sixth annual Nova Scotia Open Goalball tournament. The goalball player provided excellent defensive skills and amazing second efforts to keep the goalball out of Nova Scotia’s net. Matthew will be considered for a position on the Senior NS team competing at the Canadian Senior Nationals in May 2023. 

Quick Facts: Athlete of the Month 

•The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards.  

•A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
