January 7, 2025 (Halifax, NS)– Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the Cleve’s Source for Sports December Impact Award Recipients: Geoff Bennett (Volunteer), Brody MacPherson (Male Athlete), and Emma Archibald (Female Athlete)
Volunteer: Geoff Bennett, Cross Country Ski
Achievements: Geoff’s dedication to the Scotia XC Ski Club’s equipment rental program is truly inspiring. For over nine years, he has coordinated this program with extreme attention to detail and high technical knowledge. Last month, Geoff’s commitment was evident as he outfitted skiers of every age from the Scotia XC Ski Club through the loan program, from the littlest skiers trying the sport for the first time to parents and grandmasters. Geoff’s positive attitude and careful consideration when helping participants choose the equipment is a testament to his unwavering dedication.
Male Athlete: Brody MacPherson, Swim Nova Scotia
Achievements: Last month, Brody completed a remarkable sweep of all three short course provincial records, which have stood for decades. Shaving over a second off each record, Brody completed the 50m breaststroke in 30.89 (previous record 31.26), the 100m breaststroke in 1:06.16 (previous record 1:07.35), and broke the 200m breaststroke record, which has stood since 1989, with a time of 2:22.84 (previous record 2:25.21), setting a new benchmark for future swimmers.
Female Athlete: Emma Archibald, Cross Country Ski
Achievements: Emma’s recent performance at the Nordiq Canada Para Nordic Continental Cup Races in Canmore, Alberta, was nothing short of inspiring. Despite stiff competition, she clinched the bronze in the women’s 10k free-standing race, a testament to her skill and determination. Emma’s achievements go beyond this race. She is a trailblazer for para-Nordic cross-country skiing in Nova Scotia, being the first para-nordic Nova Scotia skier to be a member of the National Para Nordic World Cup Team, the 2024-25 Development Para-Nordic National Team, and the University of Ottawa Nordiq Team. Her bronze medal is just one of many accolades, including a third-place finish in the FIS Nordic Skiing World Cup.
