Cleve’s Source for Sports Impact Awards November

November 27, 2024 (Halifax, NS)– Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce the 2024 Cleve’s Source for Sports November Impact Award Recipients: Abbi Northrup (Female Athlete), Nicholas Gentleman (Male Athlete), Daniel Murray (Coach), and Elliott Davis (Volunteer).

Female Athlete: Abbi Northrup, Basketball Nova Scotia

Achievements: Abbi’s journey is a testament to resilience and dedication. Despite tearing her meniscus during the 2021/2022 basketball season, she showed remarkable commitment and growth during her recovery over the past year. Through hard work, she joined the Evolution high-performance travel team, was named captain of her school’s basketball and flag football teams, and took on the role of junior assistant coach for the Fall River Rebels Division 1 U12 girls’ basketball team, all while continuing to work with a personal trainer. Recently Abbi was named to the Division 1 Bedford Eagles Girls U16/18 basketball team, showcasing the results of her dedication and commitment to her sport.

Male Athlete: Nicholas Gentleman, Goalball Nova Scotia

Achievements: Nick has played goalball for many years and has been integral to Nova Scotia’s success at the junior and senior levels. This month, at the CNIB Nova Scotia Open Goalball tournament, he played center for Team Nova Scotia. While the center position tends to be more defensive, Nick still had an important offensive impact, scoring 13 goals to help his team win the gold medal.

Coach: Daniel Murray, Cross Country Skiing Nova Scotia

Achievements: Daniel has been coaching the Nova Scotia Cross-Country Ski Team for the last 16 years, leading a year-round competitive program that includes training camps held throughout the province. Last month, at the Annual Atlantic Super Camp held at Fundy National Park, he teamed up with coaches from the four Atlantic provinces to provide coaching support. Throughout the weekend, his enthusiasm and positivity for the sport were evident as he assisted with all aspects of the camp, including timing, coaching, training, communication, and logistics. Daniel has played an important role over the years, helping to connect Nova Scotian athletes to the broader ski community of Atlantic Canada, an important part of the sport, while providing an encouraging and guiding space for athletes to expand their ski experiences.

Volunteer: Elliott Davis, Surf Nova Scotia

Achievements: Elliott is currently the chair of Surf Nova Scotia’s contest committee, which is demanding due to the diversity of skills required and the amount of contest organization needed. This past season, under Elliott’s leadership, Surf NS successfully ran two major provincial championships, each with over 40 entrants, and three smaller events throughout the province. With an incredible work ethic and kindness, Elliott succeeded in a role that requires communication, patience, and many hours of setup, all while working full-time as a surf instructor and an undergraduate student.
