20-year-old ringette player, Kylee Mansfield is the February 2022 Nova Scotia True Sport Athlete Ambassador.
Kylee played for Ringette Nova Scotia and now plays in the National Ringette League for the Atlantic Attack team. When she’s not on the rink, this second-year sociology major is hitting the books at Acadia University or spending time with her friends, family and dog, Dottie.
Kylee’s sport of choice is ringette but in high school, she took her shot at a variety of activities. This multisport athlete played volleyball, cross country, soccer, and field hockey. Sport is meaningful to her because whether she is on a rink, court, or field she feels the True Sport Principles.
“Sport feels like True Sport to me because when I am at the rink, I feel respected as a player by my teammates, officials and coaches. I’ve worked hard to earn this and am proud of what I have achieved,” said Kylee.
There is one game that Kylee says she is the proudest of, “My most memorable athletic win was when my Canada Games team won against the home team and their home crowd in the opening game of the Canada Winter Games. My team was considered the underdogs at the games and after that win, we gained the respect of all of the other teams.”
The athlete that inspires Kylee the most is Serena Williams, “because as a black female athlete she has faced so much adversity but yet continues to constantly be reinventing herself and I find that so inspiring.” said Kylee.
During the summers, Kylee spends time inspiring younger athletes by coaching at RISE ringette camp. Once she completes her Bachelor of Sociology degree at Acadia University, Kylee plans on taking her Bachelor of Education and applying her coaching skills to become a teacher.
The Nova Scotia True Sport Athlete Ambassador Program is a social media campaign created to foster a positive and safe sporting culture across the province. The goal of the program is to increase awareness of the seven True Sport Principles; “Go For It, Play Fair, Respect Others, Keep it Fun, Stay Healthy, Include Everyone, and Give Back.” Each month a new featured athlete will share how they live the True Sport Principles in their athletic and everyday pursuits through personal stories on Instagram.
