17-year-old multisport athlete, Sierra Eshouzadeh is the Nova Scotia True Sport Athlete Ambassador for March 2022.
Sierra is versed in multiple sports such as football, rugby, softball, soccer and paddling but the sport that has her hooked is boxing. It’s the excitement that comes with competing in the boxing ring that fuels her passion for putting the gloves on.
“I love the feeling of being so nervous and having so much adrenaline but after the fight it’s nothing but respect for my opponent and happiness, win or lose.” says Sierra, “Competing is amazing because I travel a lot to compete, see such amazing places and also meet so many people that make my boxing experience as great as it is.”
Sierra believes in the True Sport Principles and applies those values in the ring.
“My experience as a boxer has been grounded in True Sport. As an individual sport, I have the utmost respect for myself, the officials, referees and my opponents and believe this to be critical to my success as an athlete and person,” said Sierra.
No stranger to trying new things, this athlete took her skills to the big screen last year in the reality competition show, All-Round Champion. For this competition, Sierra went out of her comfort zone, spent three months away from her family and learned 10 new sports in only three days.
Sierra is a shining example of the True Sport Principle “go for it” and her advice to other female athletes reflects that.
“…even if you are shy or nervous and out of your comfort zone you never know what you will fall in love with until you try it. You should never care what anybody thinks because at the end of the day if you are doing what you truly love, and what makes you happy that is all that matters.” says Sierra, “Never back down and be fierce, you won’t regret it.”
Sierra’s next challenge takes her to Mexico to compete with the West Coast Wonder Women boxing team. After not being able to compete for two years, this True Sport Ambassador is overjoyed to get back into the ring with a team built to uplift her.
“The West Coast Wonder Women is an amazing team that is meant to inspire other female athletes. I think it’s an amazing team they are making and great awareness, especially with such a male-dominated sport like boxing,” said Sierra.
The Nova Scotia True Sport Athlete Ambassador Program is a social media campaign created to foster a positive and safe sporting culture across the province. The goal of the program is to increase awareness of the seven True Sport Principles; “Go For It, Play Fair, Respect Others, Keep it Fun, Stay Healthy, Include Everyone, and Give Back.” Each month a new featured athlete will share how they live the True Sport Principles in their athletic and everyday pursuits through personal stories on Instagram.
